Bangkok Eats

Old-town food worth riding for. 80-year curry alleys, dawn markets, crab fried rice, and dinner terraces facing Wat Arun.

Food

Take fried rice and put an enormous amount of real crab meat into it. Their signature Khao Phat Khot Poo is fried rice loaded with large chunks of crab from Surat Thani - crab in essentially every bite.

Not in the tourist centre - in the Bang Yi Khan area, intimate and residential. The feeling of eating inside a private Bangkok house and garden rather than a conventional restaurant.

Maha Set is one of those Bang Rak side streets where food combines with a walk through old commercial Bangkok.

Tucked inside the tiny lanes of old Rattanakosin - the walk to get there is part of the experience. You're discovering somewhere to eat inside an old Bangkok alley.

A direct view across the Chao Phraya toward Wat Arun, especially beautiful at sunset. Michelin recommends the terrace and the vintage Chinese-panel interior.

For more than 80 years people have eaten curry here, sitting on tiny stools in the alley, often holding their plates - a classic Yaowarat experience where seating is musical chairs.

An old-school Bangkok breakfast diner that feels like it has been here forever. No concept, no Instagram design - just an old family place with coffee and people coming and going.
